Hello everyone. My name is Maureen Lee, I was born in Bootle, Liverpool, and started to write more than 50 years ago when still in my teens. Over the next 30 years, I had about 150 stories, three plays and an historical novel published. I also had a play, 'When Adam Delved and Eve Span', about the Peasants' Revolt in 1381, professionally performed for three weeks at our local theatre, the Mercury in Colchester. During this period, I also had three sons, David, Paul and Patrick. I should mention here that I have been married to the saintly Richard also for more than 50 years.
In 1990, Patrick having left home for University, I decided to write full time. I rented an office and went every day, Monday to Friday, eleven o'clock until four, either writing furiously, or lost in thought. One of the early results of this hectic period was five chapters of a novel called Stepping Stones. My agent, Juliet, sent it to every single publisher and every one turned it down. A year later, one of the publishers, Orion, having remembered the novel, asked to see it again and I was commissioned to finish it. To cut a long story short, Orion asked me to be their Liverpool author and I have written a novel a year ever since. I am at present writing my 20th, and have just signed a contract for another four.
I am really looking forward to being writer in residence for Bookbite for the next four months.
