Piano........ took me back to my childhood, only it was my father who played so brilliantly, even though he could not read a note of music. I would sit - often under the piano listening and watching his feet press the pedals. Now, I listen to my son who also cannot read music , but plays so beautifully on his baby grand piano. He reminds me so much of my father who is now long gone.
I liked all the poems. They all make you stop and think. However I absolutely loved Ode To Joy. It really did fill me with joy. I will be singing Ode To Joy all day in my garden
i read them all, and i must say as a lover of poetry, i found them all meaningful, and very poignant. i too remember our house filled with lots of my parents friends, and family visiting, my uncle harry my mums brother, played an accordian, my dad had a harmonica. great fun, with simple pleasures, so different now.
"Piano" takes me right back to being the youngest of a large family, often sitting under a table, listening, when my sisters were courting and laughing. My mother would vamp "Red Sails in the sunset" and one of the young men would sing "Marthe, rambling rose of the wildwood". Sheer nostalgia! Thank you, DHL.
Perhaps it's because I play the piano but I think this is great and it brings back many memories.
As an amateur choral singer, I have sung Ode to Joy many times. I love the words inspired by this piece of music. They made me smile as I sat at my computer singing them.
This poem took me back to the life I enjoyed in the 1930...40 and 50s. Lots of family and friend gatherings. My second choice, Ode to Joy was only beaten by a whisker.
Those words fit in so perfectly with the music. I could hear it going round in my head as I read the poem. Beautiful!
Ode to Joy - Evocation and imagery is beautifully captured in this poem
