How long will it take you?
There's no need to read in isolation. With 10,000 reading groups linked to libraries across the country, there's sure to be a group near you. It's a great way to socialise, and you could sign up for the Six Book Challenge!
Encouraging people to read six books and record their progress, hundreds of libraries take part in the Reading Agency's annual challenge. Ask in your local library, or visit www.sixbookchallenge.org.uk to find out how you can join in for 2011.
Rupert's record
Rupert Mikely from Brent in London signed up this year. Now 71, Rupert came to the UK from Jamaica 52 years ago. Rupert is an Age Concern volunteer, and Sunday school teacher.
"I heard about the Six Book Challenge from my English class tutor, Saliha. I took a few 'Quick Reads' from her and started to think, "I could do this!" I found the whole experience very exciting and enjoyed reading about other people's lives - I read about Paul Robeson, Marcus Garvey and the slave trade. Once I started a book, I was hooked. In fact, I'd read my six books within a week!".
